An exercise in dub abstraction, Cooptrol’s latest release, Traces, simultaneously satisfies the demands of the modern dancefloor while creating a dream-like state. The primal lows and pounding basses coupled with cerebral highs and breezy synths remind us of the fundamental link between humanity and nature. In essence, Traces is a fine balance between utility and artwork, as always with the deep dub dressing that colors Cooptrol’s typical output.
